Christmas is just around the corner! With the holiday season coming up, there are many different events and activities to participate in with your family in Barrie and the surrounding area this December. Between festivals, Santa Clause Parades, and concerts this month is sure to be a great one.
Drysdales Christmas Weekend Festivities is open from November 24th until December 24th. A great place for the whole family to pick out a Christmas tree and even take a horse-drawn wagon out to the tree farm. More activities include meeting Santa and Mrs. Claus, a magician, face painters, and food and drinks by a bonfire. Free admission for Drysdales, Christmas activities Saturdays and Sundays 10 am - 4 pm, cut your own tree 7 days a week 10 am - 4 pm. If you missed the Santa Claus Parade in Barrie, you can still catch the parade in Elmvale on Sunday, December 4th from 1-2 pm. There is also a Santa Claus Parade in Penetanguishene on Saturday, December 3rd from 4-5:30 pm there is the parade and a tree lighting ceremony, Christmas carols at the dock, a barbecue, a wagon ride and live music by Linda MacDonald and of course a visit with Santa.
You can attend Christmas Past and Present on December 8th & 9th between 6-9 pm at the Simcoe County Museum, Minesing for caroling, holiday music, hands-on crafts, local artisans, horse-drawn wagon rides, and traditional holiday treats. Admissions are by donation, proceeds go to the Friends of Simcoe County Museum. Veni Vidi Studio and Gallery host a Christmas Art Show and Sale from November 25th to December 16th. The gallery is open Monday to Friday from noon to 5 pm. Artists include Pauline Bradshaw, Adva Klein, Joel Perron, Sheila Ghazarian, Jack Killin, and Alice Edwards.
Did you know, on Friday, December 9th at the Army Navy and Air Force Club you can enjoy Latin dancing! There is a complimentary salsa lesson at 8:30 pm, other dances include bachata, reggae, cumbia, merengue, and cha-cha. There is free parking, a $5 cover, and table munchies to enjoy. On Sunday, December 11th The Huron Symphony Orchestra presents Christmas Express, under the direction of Oliver Balaburski at the Collier United Church. This is a fun activity for the whole family to partake in as the symphony plays through Christmas classics including Rocky Mountain Overture, The Polar Express, Sleigh Ride, Nutcracker Suite, and more. The Simcoe Youth Singers are the featured guests and lead the traditional Christmas carol sing-along. The event also includes a silent auction and bake sale. Tickets are $5 for children, $10 for students, and $25 for adults.
Bring the kids to Story Time with Santa at the RioCan Georgian Mall on December 13th, 10-11 am. Natalie MacMaster and Donnell Leahy: A Celtic Family Christmas at the Georgian Theatre from 7:30-9:30 pm.
Toronto Christmas Market: November 18 to December 22, 2016. Inspired by the European Christkindlmarkt that originated in Germany in the 1400s, the Toronto Christmas Market is a month-long event celebrating all the sounds, sights, and scents of Christmas. Set in the Victorian-era, cobblestone-lined Distillery Historic District, this annual event brings together local craft makers, carolers, musicians, and artisanal food-makers for a truly festive experience. Sip on mulled wine and European Christmas cocktails as you peruse the selection of hand-made ornaments, wood carvings, and crafts. Then cozy up by the fire or take in carollers, brass bands, and authentic European dancers. Free admission Tuesday to Friday and $6.00 admission Friday evening, Saturday, and Sunday.
